REGIONAL TRAINING OF TRAINERS WORKSHOP
ON DATABASE AND WEB PORTAL DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT
21ST- 25TH JULY 2015, NAIROBI, KENYA
The Project Management Unit (PMU) in collaboration with Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya organized Regional Training of Trainers Workshop on Database and Web Portal Development and Management for five days from 21st -25th July 2015. The workshop took place at the Telecommunications Laboratory in Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop aimed at strengthening the regional and national capacities of the technical staff in the water sector in the participating countries to develop and maintain their databases and Web Portal. It was designed to allow national experts from participating countries to be trained for training the other experts in their countries on Databases and Web Portal. The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Julius Wellens-Mensah, Chief, Basic Systems in Hydrology Division, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Prof. Izael Da Silva, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Strathmore University. Other speakers during the opening session include Mr. Mohamed Tawfik (Project Manager, IGAD-HYCOS Project), Dr. Joseph Orero (Dean, Faculty of Information Technology, Strathmore University), and Prof. Ishmail Ateya (Associate Professor, Faculty of Information Technology, Strathmore University)
The Workshop was well attended by twenty (25) participants from nine (9) countries (Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda), IGAD Climate Predication and Application Center (ICPAC) and IGAD-HYCOS Project Management Unit. There were two (2) participants from each country plus extra four from Kenya and Uganda sponsored by their governments and one participant from ICPAC. . Also in attendance there was IGAD-HYCOS technical and administrative staff, IGAD-HYCOS Project Manager (Mr. Mohamed Tawfik) and Chief, Basic Systems in Hydrology Branch, WMO (Mr. Julius Wellens-Mensah) .The training sessions were very well designed by Strathmore University and with the experience of the Trainers, participants from member countries were able to improve their knowledge on the topic.. The participants’ active participation and good attendance reflected the countries interest and commitment in the success of IGAD-HYCOS Project activities. The trainees were provided with comprehensive set of high quality training materials in hard and soft copies. The quality and contents of the provided materials were highly appreciated by all participants and the Project technical team.
