INWRMP & IGAD-HYCOS Project
JOINT STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING
22 - 24 July 2014, Nairobi, Kenya
Since the last INWRMP and HYCOS Steering Committee (SC) meetings, many activities have been carried out. Therefore, it was decided to organize a joint SC meeting for INWRMP and HYCOS to allow the Steering Committee members exchange experience in implementing the approved work plan. The meeting would allow the SC members in Inland Water Resource Management Programme (INWRMP) and Hydrological Cycle Observing System Project (HYCOSP) who represent the IGAD participating countries, to be familiarized with the work and planned activities of INWRMP and HYCOSP. They will discuss and exchange views on the work progress and provide guidance to the INWRMP Team Leader (INWRMP-TL) and HYCOS Project Manager (HYCOS-PM) to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the INWRMP and its component (HYCOS Project).
The INWRMP and HYCOS Project provide an important and ground breaking opportunity to improve the Integrated Water Resources Management of valuable, but scarce, water resources in the region. This meeting is very important and it will ensure that the INWRMP and HYCOS Project are targeting to meet the hydrological information needs of the region.
The meeting will be held at the Nairobi Safari Club, Lillian Towers, Nairobi, Kenya from 22-24 July 2014. It will be attended by the Steering Committee members and National Focal Points from nine participating countries (Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda), IGAD Secretariat, EU Delegation, WMO, INWRMP-TA team and IGAD-HYCOS team. The attendees will include Under Secretaries and Director Generals of Water in the countries. The agenda, explanatory memorandum, work programme and information note were circulated to the participants.
